Most of criminal cases in Beijing fraud-related

More than 75 percent of criminal cases that Beijing police tackled from January to June involved property, most of which were fraud, the capital's public security bureau said on Tuesday.

Police dealt with 60,500 criminal cases, while the number of the property offense reached 46,000, according to bureau statistics.

Fraud cases ranked the highest with 10,100, and burglary and theft ranked second and third, the bureau said.

Police dealt with 112 homicide cases in the past six months, a 15 percent drop year-on-year. More than 98 percent of them have been solved, the police said.

The city's police broke up more than 790 gangs related to organized prostitution and detained almost 3,000 suspects, according to the statistics.

In addition, 373 people died in 1,424 traffic accidents during the period, while seven died in fires.

Fu Zhenghua, director of the bureau, said at a news conference on Tuesday that this is the first time Beijing police have issued figure of criminal case figures to the public.

Beijing police will build the city into a secure place for all residents, and residents are welcome to give their suggestions via micro blog and letters, he added.

Chen Burong, 28, who lives in Chaoyang district, said she has been paying attention to the police's micro blog since 2010 and made several suggestions using the platform.
