Police said a Vietnamese bride who claimed to have been brought to China and forced into prostitution was lying. She missed her hometown in Vietnam so badly that she made up fake miseries in the hope that police would send her back, Xiandai Jinbao, a newspaper sponsored by Xinhua News Agency, reported Tuesday.

The Vietnamese bride, who ran away from home in Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, made up with her Chinese husband and went back home in China after police intervened, the report said.

On July 3, the woman was found sitting on a sidewalk, crying. She told local police that she was a 17-year-old high school student, who was tricked by neighbors into coming to China and then forced into prostitution, from where she just escaped. Later she told the police a different story，that she was coaxed into marrying a Chinese man who already had a wife, and her husband forsake her.

The police found that Ye, her husband, neither committed bigamy nor abandoned her. Ye, who is poor, failed to get a wife for many years. In May 2013, a Vietnamese woman introduced Ye to his Vietnamese wife. Ye brought the Vietnamese woman back to China, and the two registered to marry at a local civil administration department.

Ye said marrying his wife cost him more than 60,000 yuan($9,800).

In the first half of 2013, 97 men from Wenzhou married Vietnamese women, but throughout the year 2011 only 13 men did so. Some of the Vietnamese brides have run away or divorced because they couldn't adjust to family life in China.
