Animated films earned $220m in box takings in 2012

A total of 32 animated films were shown in movie theaters in China last year, earning box office revenue of more than 1.35 billion yuan ($220 million). Of those, 20 domestic productions earned 400 million yuan, according to an industry report released by Media & Entertainment Industry Reporter on Tuesday.
In 2012, the nation's ticket sales totaled 17.2 billion yuan, of which animated movies accounted for about 8 percent.
The 32 animated films attracted 36 million viewers to theaters, about 8 percent of the total number of annual moviegoers, the report said.
Of the 20 domestic animated films, only one generated more than 100 million yuan in box office takings - Mission Incredible: Adventures On The Dragon's Trail.
