Police authorities in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region announced it would reward whistleblowers who expose terrorist plots, a move to help rebuild stability after a recent deadly terrorist attack.

A 50,000-100,000 yuan( reward will be given to people whose information gives police important clues in investigating terrorist-involved activities, Xinjiang Public Security Department said on Monday via their official account on Sina Weibo, a Chinese Twitter-like social networking site.

The whistleblowers will be kept safe and anonymous, said the statement.

Suspects were encouraged to turn themselves in with the possibility of lenient punishment.

A total of 24 people, including 16 Uygurs, were killed in a violent terrorist attack on Wednesday in the region.
