The Beijing public have been invited to give their ideas and suggestions on a draft to control animal epidemics.
The draft also covers a ban on the slaughter of animals in areas where people eat and ethnic tourism sites.
The capital’s residents can offer their opinions on the draft up to July 9.
According to the draft, the slaughtering of animals for food can only be conducted in fixed sites in urban areas with licenses and access to centralized quarantine to guarantee the food safety. Any violation will result in a fine up to 200,000 yuan ($32,540). In certain cases a fine of 10,000 yuan will be levied.
The draft stipulates that bio-safety disposal sites, in which dead pets can be disposed of safely, be established in certain areas.
