BEIJING - Chinese President Xi Jinping has asked members of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee to ceaselessly improve their ideological and political level.
Xi, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, made the comments in a meeting attended by Political Bureau members from June 22 to 25.
The priority for the Political Bureau is adherence to the correct political line, stance, orientation and path, which Xi said was also the cardinal task to secure the CPC's leadership and China's socialist system.
Xi put forward a five-point requirement for the improvement of the work of the Political Bureau, including improving the ideological and political level of Political Bureau members.
He asked members to "place ideological and political work at first place," and refer to the Marxist political outlook in self-examination, transformation and improvement.
Xi asked members to remain steadfast in their ideals and beliefs, and to strengthen their political acumen and judgement.
Members of the Political Bureau were also urged to correctly understand and firmly safeguard the overall situation of the CPC and the country, the reform and development, social stability, the security of the CPC's leadership and the socialist regime, and unity of the Party and the country.
During the just concluded meeting, Political Bureau members conducted criticism and self criticism to set an exemplary role for others in the Party's campaign to strengthen ties between its members and the people.
