The capital and surrounding areas will be given specific requirements by the environmental authorities to reduce the presence of PM2.5, 21st Century Business Herald reported on Tuesday.
The policy targets Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, Shanxi and the Inner Mongolia autonomous region and will set goals for the next five years.
There will also be detailed plans to cut coal consumption and boost green standards for industry.
An official from the Ministry of Environmental Protection said the ministry is working with the State Council to make sure local governments realize their goals on tackling air pollution.
In addition to the specific action plan in northern China, the central government is also mulling rules for the whole country over the next five years, containing ten guidelines to help tackle air pollution.
