VIENNA - The Chinese representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stressed Monday in Vienna that nuclear power would continue to occupy an important position in future energy development in China.
At the Board of Governors Meeting of the IAEA, Wang Min, the Secretary General of China Atomic Energy Authority, said development of nuclear power in use is aimed at meeting the demands of sustainable energy supply and environmental protection.
He said that the world is gradually coming out of the shadows of Fukushima nuclear accident in 2011, and is restoring its growing trend thanks to the joint efforts of the international community.
Noting the pragmatic cooperation between China and the IAEA, Wang said he hoped the IAEA would continue to promote the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
