The decision was made because of Liu's suspected involvement in serious disciplinary violations, said a statement from the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection announced on Sunday that Liu has been under investigation.

Born in October 1954, Liu has served as a deputy director of the NDRC since 2008.
