Inmates at Tieling Prison in Liaoning province had access to sports betting and other gambling activities, according to reports by people.com.cn on Tuesday.
Citing an inmate recently released from the facility, the report said gambling was prevalent among convicts, and included soccer betting and card games.
Prisoners even asked relatives to smuggle money into the prison in dumplings, the report said.
A room used for conjugal visits was also used by some prisoners to sleep with prostitutes, who presented fake marriage certificates at the front gate, according to the report.
Administration of the prison was tightened after two deputy governors were detained in 2010 and 2012. Both were found to have taken large sums of money in bribes.
