BEIJING - Taiwan compatriots cannot be absent in realizing the "Chinese dream" of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, a mainland spokeswoman said at a press conference Wednesday.
The mainland will actively promote the peaceful development of relations across the Taiwan Straits and strive to achieve the "Chinese dream" with the help of cross-straits collaboration, according to Fan Liqing, spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office.
Supporting the peaceful development of cross-straits relations has become mainstream opinion in Taiwan in recent years, Fan said, adding that people on both sides are expecting relations to deepen further.
Non-governmental organizations and figures on both sides are currently discussing cross-straits political issues, she said.
"This is pragmatic. It contributes to building a consensus and will help to create conditions for problem-solving in the future," she said.
