BEIJING - The China Charity Federation (CCF) raised 30.41 billion yuan (about $4.85 billion) in donations of money and goods from Jan 1, 2007 to Dec 31, 2012, the organization announced Wednesday.
The federation has carried out more than 60 charity projects in areas including medical care, education and poverty relief, benefiting more than 1 million people, according to CCF statistics.
It has also established a system designed to support charitable projects across the country, according to the CCF.
Over the past five years, the federation raised near 1.75 billion yuan for disaster relief and aided in the reconstruction of disaster-affected areas.
"Solving the problem of inaccessible and expensive medical care is an important part of the federation's work," said Fan Baojun, the CCF's former head.
He said the federation has offered free drugs and surgery for some poor patients, as well as subsidized treatment for others.
