A Beijing woman is suing a veterinarian clinic she says killed her pet dog.
The plaintiff, identified as Ling, is demanding 6.45 million yuan ($1.04 million) in damages from Beijing Fangzhuang Companion Animal Hospital.
The Mirror newspaper reported on Wednesday the dog owner, who is mentally disabled, said her dog, Bei Bei, was her spiritual ballast and companion.
Ling said she has schizophrenia and has been out of work since 2011.
She provided evidence during the trial, such as medicines the dog used to take, according to the report.
However, the animal hospital denies causing the dog's death and is fighting the case.
A verdict is pending.
