Many Tianjin residents say they can't enjoy annual leave despite government efforts to promote the practice to drive domestic consumption, Metro Express reported.

Some Tianjin residents said the paid annual leave for ordinary employees, enforced by Tianjin's government this year, is sometimes impractical, the newspaper reported. The report said that the requirement is implemented well in State-owned enterprises, and some of them even make the leave mandatory. But for workers in some small and midsized private companies, workers said they didn't even know that they are entitled to a paid annual leave.

Some netizens said they fear that taking a long leave puts their jobs in jeopardy. An employee in a private company surnamed Sun admitted that she does not dare to take a leave longer than three days because she then has to ask a colleague to fill in for her, which can inconvenience the co-worker. Sun also said she has to get extra work done before a holiday, but that makes her too tired before the holiday begins.
