HEFEI - A seven-year-old boy died in hospital after rescuers dug him out from rocks and mud following a landslide in Xuancheng city in East China's Anhui province, local fire police said on Thursday.
The landslide occurred at 1:47 pm Wednesday in Xiwu village of Guangde county. Two senior citizens who were also buried are receiving hospital treatment, according to Xuancheng City Fire Police sources.
Xuancheng City Fire-fighting Department fire fighter Zhu Wei said that the collapsing hill was about 15 meters high.
"Two two-story residential houses situated halfway up the hill were completely destroyed by the landslide," he said.
The two older citizens, not deeply buried, were immediately rescued and sent to hospital.
It took rescuers three hours to dig out the boy who suffered a serious head injury, Zhu said.
