BEIJING - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Thursday urged China's science administrators, business leaders and scientists to race to make breakthroughs in scientific and technological innovation.
Speaking during his inspection tour of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Wen called for reform in the country's science work system, so that science and technology can develop hand in hand with the economy.
The premier urged innovations be made in core technologies, major scientific fields and new products.
He called for the scientific community to have a sense of urgency, to avoid missed opportunities at a time when all countries are competing for dominance in ever more fierce technological competitions.
Furthermore, Wen said the education system should also be reformed to grow top talents and help create an environment for free thinking and innovation.
