BEIJING - The international community examined a recent speech by Chinese leader Xi Jinping during a study session and says the address reflects China's aspirations for peace and development.
"We will stick to the road of peaceful development, but will never give up our legitimate rights and will never sacrifice our national core interests," Xi, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said Monday at a group study session with members of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau.
Tarun Vijay, national spokesman of India's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said his party welcomes Xi's speech about the commitment to peaceful development. He also said he expects further development of the India-China relationship.
Andrew MacIntyre, a professor at the College of Asia and the Pacific of the Australian National University, said the speech sent a clear message emphasizing China's desire for peaceful and cooperative relations with the region and the world and the country's determination to defend its core national interests.
Chen Gang, a researcher with the East Asian Institute of the National University of Singapore, said Xi's remarks reflected the unchanged desire of the CPC leadership for a peaceful environment.
Ibrahim Yusuf, chairman of the executive board of Indonesia's Council on World Affairs told Xinhua that as an Asian giant, the peaceful rise of China would benefit the region and the world.
Oh Ei Sun, former political secretary to Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, said Xi's speech showed clearly that China was on the way toward peaceful development together with other countries.
