Chinese border officers seize 45,000 guns in 2012

BEIJING - Border control officers seized 45,043 guns and 5,064 kg of narcotics in 2012 in an intensified crackdown, the border control department of the Ministry of Public Security announced Tuesday.
The officers also confiscated 244 grenades and 1,857 kg of dynamite during the period, the department said in a report.
In addition, the officers caught 3,674 suspects in 3,075 drug-related cases last year.
About 80 percent of the cases were handled by border officers in Southwest China's Yunnan province, according to the report.
