BEIJING - The Communist Party of China (CPC) will allocate 37.85 million yuan ($6.1 million) to Party members in need prior to the Lunar New Year holiday.
According to a statement released Tuesday by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, the funds will come from Party fees collected from members and will be sent to various lower-level organization departments before reaching eligible recipients.
Impoverished rural Party members, elderly members, unemployed urban members, members affected by natural disasters and the relatives of members who died in the course of disaster prevention and relief work will be eligible for the funds, said the statement.
Various organization departments have also been urged to allocate a certain amount of money from their own management fees to support members eligible to receive the funds, as well as visit them.
The Lunar New Year, the most important traditional Chinese festival, falls on February 10 this year.
