About 200 households in Beijing's Yanqing county have moved into their new homes in the county's first social-welfare community this year, Beijing Daily reported on Dec 25.
Tian Xiufeng, 61, a resident who has a disabled son, has moved into a 52-square-meter room in Yue An Ju, a welfare housing project, that has a rent of only 75 yuan ($12) a month, the report said.
Thirty-six other households enjoy similar rental apartments, and 164 households bought low-priced apartments in the community, which has well-established facilities and educational resources, the report said.
Tian told the newspaper that lots of residents, including her, burst into tears when they got the keys to their new homes.
Yue An Ju, which can house 600 households, is the first social welfare housing community in the county. The local government said it will continue building 630 apartments next year, the report added.
