Wang Yang, who handed over the position of Party chief of Guangdong province to Hu Chunhua on Tuesday, wrote a letter to acknowledge the netizens' support.
"I'm writing to say goodbye to people on the Internet as I have already left the post of secretary of the Guangdong provincial committee," the official People's Daily quoted Wang's letter as saying.
"Thank you for your criticism, opinions and suggestions to the Party committee and government of Guangdong, and to me in the past five years," Wang wrote.
Wang added that the Web users suggestions have played an "active role" in advancing reform, opening-up and the development of Guangdong.
"The achievements (that we) made in speeding up the transformation and building a 'Happy Guangdong' was due to the wisdom and power of friends online," he wrote.
Wang gave his best wishes to netizens and expected them to continue supporting the development of Guangdong and the country.
