BEIJING - Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong met Friday with Androulla Vassiliou, EU commissioner for education, culture, multilingualism and youth.

As the two officials co-chaired the first China-EU high-level people-to-people dialogue in Brussels this April, Liu hailed the dialogue mechanism for its contributions in achieving closer mutual understanding and trust and helping to consolidate the popular basis for bilateral ties.

Liu recalled the developments in bilateral ties this year, saying the two sides witnessed two leaders' meetings in 2012 and scored remarkable successes in furthering ties.

Liu also briefed Vassiliou on the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Vassiliou will wrap up her three-day visit on Dec 1.
