The photos of children huddling up on desks were first exposed online before Shaanxi TV confirmed it with the school.
"There are nearly 3,000 children in our school, and we have no place for their noon rest. Parents send them here of their own will," said an anonymous source at Xi'an Gaoxin No 1 Primary School.
When asked how it feels sleeping on her desk, one girl said, "It's OK."
One father said, "I take my child home and don't let him do that."
