Over 120 foreign experts from 33 countries and regions, who are working all over China, attended the opening of a week-long experts' introduction program on Tuesday in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

Organized by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, local authorities said they plan to recruit more foreign experts to boost the local economic and technology development.

During the week, the experts will be divided into different groups based on their skills, and will visit related enterprises, farms and research institutes to give lectures.

The companies will have the chance to sign up any experts they need.

The State Administration first started appointing foreign experts in 2004 to work in Xinjiang to support local development, especially in agriculture, technology innovation and human resource training.

More than 2,000 foreign experts have been employed , while 1,300 local people from Xinjiang have been sent to study or train abroad.
