The China Banking Regulatory Commission will set up an information and technology supervision department, in a move to boost the commission's supervision of the banking industry's IT operations and maintain the stable development of the industry.
Backed by the CBRC, the new department will be in charge of supervising policies, developing plans, handle technology emergencies and manage the technology and information risks of the banking industry.
The technology supervision department's first task is to establish a comprehensive technology supervising system and standards for the banking industry, build up the ranks of IT professionals, deepen inspection, broaden internal and external cooperation and promote the healthy development of the banking industry IT area.
Shang Fulin, chairman of the CBRC, said that the stable operation of the banking industry's IT systems are closely related to the sustainable development of the industry and financial safety.
"The establishment of the supervision department shows that the government pays close attention to the banking industry's information and technology security and the government's determination to strengthen professional management," Shang said.
