Beijing's mayor and a deputy mayor have resigned from their posts following the 34th session of the Standing Committee of the 13th Beijing Municipal People's Congress, the local legislative body.

The resignations of Guo Jinlong and Ji Lin were accepted by the committee during the meeting on Tuesday morning.

Wang Anshun and Li Shixiang have been appointed as deputy mayors, with Wang as acting mayor.

On July 3, Guo Jinlong was elected secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Ji Lin was appointed deputy secretary.

Guo, born in July 1947, was elected to the post at the first plenary meeting of the 11th CPC Beijing Municipal Committee.

Guo, a native of Nanjing in East China's Jiangsu province, joined the CPC in 1979. He worked for many years in Southwest China's Sichuan province and Tibet autonomous region before serving as Party secretary of East China's Anhui province from 2004-07.

His political career in Beijing began in November 2007, when he was appointed vice secretary of Beijing's CPC Municipal Committee and acting mayor.

The newly appointed acting mayor Wang Anshun, born in December 1957, is a native of Huixian County in Central China's Henan province.

He had worked in petroleum geology authorities, the Ministry of Land and Resources, Northwest China's Gansu province, Shanghai and Beijing, holding a series of important positions. He has served as vice Party chief of Beijing since March 2007.
