A wooden bridge collapsed in heavy rain in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, on July 3, killing one person and causing five injuries.
The six people were hiding under the roof of the bridge to avoid getting soaked in the rain. They were sent immediately to a nearby hospital and one was later declared dead.
Heavy rain and fierce wind hit Nanjing around 5 pm. It even hailed in some parts of the city.
The collapse of the bridge, which was built in June 2011, has aroused public suspicion of poor construction quality.
Qiu Guangxun, an official from the city's department of housing and urban-rural development, said an investigation has been launched into the cause of the collapse.
The result of the investigation will be released to the public in one or two days, said Qiu.
