BEIJING - Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi will attend a ministerial-level meeting slated for June 30 in Geneva to discuss the Syrian conflict.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei made the announcement on Friday.
Yang will elaborate on China's stance on the conflict, extend support for the mediation efforts of joint special envoy Syria Kofi Annan, promote the implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the six-point peace plan brokered by Annan and sustain momentum for the creation of a political solution to the conflict, Hong said.
Annan said Wednesday that an action group for Syria would be convened, inviting the foreign ministers of relevant parties, including the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, to be part of the group.
