China National Radio launched expressway traffic radio channel FM99.6 on June 26, covering the expressways between Beijing, Tianjin and Tanggu, a district of the Binhai new area in Tianjin.
The program is expected to cover the country's expressway network in three years, CNR said.
The channel will provide drivers with live traffic updates, weather news, and other practical information. In case of emergency, it will release information from the authorities.
The channel can also provide a traffic information service based on the driver's location, using special technology.
Under direction of the Ministry of Transport, CNR started preparation work on the traffic radio channel in 2009.
