BEIJING - A spokesman for China's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday expressed hope that parties involved in ongoing Iran nuclear talks in Moscow can beef up diplomatic efforts to ensure their success.
Speaking at a regular press briefing in response to a question on the subject, Hong Lei said, "China is following the development of the latest round of talks on the Iranian nuclear issue closely, " and urged those at the talks to properly solve differences and maintain the talks' positive momentum.
He also called for a positive, comprehensive, long-term and proper solution to tensions over Iran's nuclear program.
"China will work with other parties to continue to play its due role in the pursuit of a peaceful and political solution for the Iranian nuclear issue," he said, adding that China has long been committed to promoting peaceful talks.
The ongoing talks, gathering Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council -- the United States, Britain, France, Russia and China plus Germany, started on Monday.
