BRUSSELS - Parties and political groups should play a positive and leading role in pushing forward the China-EU ties, a senior official with the Communist Party of China (CPC) said at the closing ceremony of a high-level political forum that ended here on Wednesday.

Parties from both sides should take the initiative on strengthening further cooperation, and be more constructive in the evolving China-EU ties, said Li Jinjun, vice minister of the CPC Central Committee's International Department.

High-level party officials from China and the EU gathered together in Brussels for two days to exchange ideas and brainstorm for the interest of both sides, thus reaching consensus and laying the foundation for future communication.

It has been the third such parties and political groups forum since 2010, and the next forum is scheduled to be held in Beijing next year.
