Two top Chinese universities - Beijing Foreign Studies University and Renmin University of China - have come together to nurture high-quality students by signing a strategic cooperation agreement in Beijing on May 15.

"It is the very first university strategic cooperation in China’s higher education history," said Yang Xueyi, Party chief of Beijing Foreign Studies University.

"BFSU has a strong advantage in language instruction, and Renmin University of China has some of China's best majors such as finance, law and sociology. The cooperation will help students become potential leaders on the world stage," said Chen Yulu, chancellor of Renmin University, adding that the two schools plan to recruit graduate students together.

Chen said cross-sector talents are highly needed. For example, he said that the United Nations aims to hire outstanding young professionals in particular fields, such as economics and politics. Besides, the UN also requires its employees to master three languages.

"The aim of the cooperation is to share our faculty and other resources to cultivate professionals to meet global employers' requirements," Chen said.

"It is a perfect match," said Zhao Qizheng, head of the foreign affairs committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
