Heads shaved for leukemia-plagued peer

Shaven-headed junior college students raising fists cry out to encourage one of their classmates, Yuan Yumei, who is suffering from leukemia, during an activity launched to seek more help for Yuan, in Yichun University in East China's Jiangxi province on April 12, 2012. Yuan, a girl from a poor rural family, was diagnosed with the disease on April 8 and urgently needs to be treated with expensive chemotherapy costing at least 150,000 yuan ($23,810)– far too pricy for Yuan's family to afford. To show their support, all of Yuan's 29 male classmates shaved their heads together on April 10 and with 20 female classmates altogether donated 8,300 yuan, an amount still far too little. They also registered a micro blog named "save yumei" (http://weibo.com/saveyumei) to call for more donations from the Internet. [Photo/CFP]
