A boom in recent years in cosmetic injections like Botox and dermal fillers in China is about to suffer a backlash as beauty experts claim the side effects from the mass use of fake products will start to appear, Yangtze Evening News reports.

Throughout the last few years, large numbers of women across the country have opted to hide their crow's feet, marionette lines, thinning lips and furrows between the brows with the help of cheap cosmetic drugs injected into the skin.

Experts say only a few products had been authorized by the State Food and Drug Administration, but the market was swamped with illegal substances that could cause side effects to appear after three years.

The paper cites beauty specialists who say this coming year will see the aftermath of the cheap cosmetic boom with people suffering facial damage and other problems.
