Luo Chongmin, head of the Yunnan provincial education department, said he is all in favor of China's upcoming reform on the college entrance exam, or gaokao.
"We will fully implement it" once the policy comes out, said Luo, who was attending the opening ceremony of the fifth session of the 11th National People's Congress on Monday.
He is referring to new policies allowing children who follow their parents to study and live in another city to take gaokao locally, instead of going back to their hometowns where their residence is registered.
"It will ease their mental pressure a great deal," he said.
According to Education Minister Yuan Guiren, the new plan will be released this year.
East China's Shandong province became the trailblazer in this field as it announced a plan in February that allowed students in the province to take gaokao locally regardless of where their residence was registered.
