The Canadian government is planning to revise the law next year to crack down on Chinese women who travel to Canada to give birth so children automatically gain Canadian citizenship, Xinkuaibao newspaper in Guangzhou reported.

The mothers-to-be staying in Canada on travel or study visas lie about their purpose to acquire visas, which is against Canadian law, the paper said, citing a Canadian official.

Possible changes include no automatic citizenship with birth and pregnancy tests added as part of obtaining visas.
