Official meets Serbian parliament speaker

BELGRADE -- He Guoqiang, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), on Monday met here respectively with Serbian Parliamentary Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic and First Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dacic.

In his meeting with Djukic-Dejanovic, who is also the vice president of the Socialist Party of Serbia, He said China and Serbia enjoy profound traditional friendship, and the two sides have been "good friends and good partners" ever since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties.

The recent years have witnessed frequent exchanges of high-level visits between the two countries and the fruitful results of cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and culture, He said.

Thanks to joint efforts by the two countries, China and Serbia are opening up a new chapter for their strategic partnership, He noted.

He spoke highly of the important roles played by Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), and Djukic-Dejanovic in promoting the exchanges between the legislatures of the two countries.

Djukic-Dejanovic, for his part, congratulated the CPC on the 90th anniversary of its founding and said she is very glad to see the longstanding tradition friendship and comprehensive bilateral cooperation between Serbia and China.

Djukic-Dejanovic also praised China for its rapid development in the fields of politics, economy and culture, and expressed appreciation for China's great and positive role in promoting world peace and development.

On decades of legislative exchanges between Serbia and China, Djukic-Dejanovic said such exchanges are in accordance with the will of the two countries. She expressed hope to broaden cooperation between the legislatures of the two countries.

When meeting with Dacic, who is also the president of the Socialist Party of Serbia and Serbia's Minister of Interior Affairs, He said China appreciates Serbia's firm support to China on issues concerning its core interests.

China also supports Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and respects the Serbian people's choice for the road of development, He said.

During the talks, He also briefed the Serbian official on the 90th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, and the latest developments of China.

In response, Dacic said Serbia attaches great importance to its relations with China, and regards the strategic partnership between the two countries as one of its most important foreign relationships.

Dacic said Serbia thinks highly of economic and trade cooperation with China, and his country will open its arms to Chinese companies seeking to invest in the Balkan country.
