BEIJING - A top official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has called for European political parties to conduct regular communication with the CPC in order to promote China-Europe relations.

"Chinese and European parties should have regular communication and hold in-depth talks about the long-term, strategic and fundamental issues in China-Europe relationship, so that they play bigger roles in pushing forward the the sound and stable development of China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership," said Xi Jinping, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

Xi made the remarks on Tuesday during a meeting with a delegation of the Party of European Socialists at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The delegation was led by Nyrup Rasmussen, the party's president.

Rasmussen congratulated China on the achievements it has made under the leadership of the CPC.

Rasmussen said he and his delegates have learned a great deal about the CPC's rule and China's development during their visit. He expressed his hope for more exchanges and cooperation between his party and the CPC.

Xi, who is also China's vice president, called for more political trust, reciprocal cooperation and cultural exchanges between China and Europe.

China's 12th Five-Year Plan(2011-2015) and Europe's development strategy for the next ten years will bring important opportunities for the development of China-Europe relations, Xi said.
