BEIJING - The Communist Party of China (CPC) on Monday pledged to make more positive contributions to the development of China-Europe ties while a delegation of the Party of European Socialists visited Beijing.

"The CPC is ready to strengthen high-level visits, exchanges between young politicians and seminars between the two parties so as to contribute to the China-Europe comprehensive strategic partnership," said Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee.

He held an hour-long meeting in the Great Hall of the People in downtown Beijing with President of the Party of European Socialists Poul Nyrup Rasmussen who traveled to China at the invitation of the CPC.

Liu said China-Europe relations are one of the most important international relations, and sound cooperation is not only important for the both sides, but also for the world's stability, peace and prosperity.

He also briefed the guests about the activities marking the 90th founding anniversary of the CPC, saying the party will continue self-improvement with more reform and innovation.

Rasmussen said he was glad to visit China at such an important time and congratulated the Chinese side for the great achievements China has scored under the leadership of the CPC. He also stressed the importance of China-Europe cooperation.
