Rain to sweep north China in coming days

BEIJING - Rain is forecast for most north China regions over the coming two days, with thunderstorms and strong winds to hit some parts, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said Thursday.
The observatory said some areas in northern China and regions in the provinces of Gansu and Shaanxi will experience heavy rains or rainstorms. Temperatures would likely fall after the rain, it said.
Meteorological experts with the NMC said the widespread precipitation would help ease a long drought that has plagued north China for months, however, they warned of floods and landslides.
The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters also released a statement Thursday, urging local authorities to enhance weather monitoring, intensify efforts to ensure the safety of reservoirs and prepare for disasters that might be triggered by the rainfall.
