BEIJING - A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said Wednesday that the CPC is ready to enhance inter-party exchanges with Japan's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), the primary opposition party.

"The CPC is willing to strengthen mutual understanding and trust with the LDP in order to contribute to the healthy and stable development of bilateral ties," said Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, when meeting with Yasufumi Tanahashi, director-general of the LDP's International Bureau.

"Inter-party communication serves as an important platform for cementing bilateral political mutual trust," Wang said.

He said China attaches great importance to promoting Sino-Japanese ties.

Tanahashi, who heads a delegation made up of several LDP party members from the National Diet, said the LDP is willing to push forward exchanges and talks with the CPC in order to contribute to the bilateral friendship, and added that Japan regards China as a friendly neighbor.

Tanahashi also expressed congratulations on the 90th anniversary of the founding of the CPC.
