BEIJING - China has indisputable sovereignty over the South China Sea islands and their surrounding waters, a Chinese official said here Wednesday.

Safeguarding the sovereignty is a common responsibility for Chinese living on both sides of the Taiwan Straits, Yang Yi, spokesman with the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, said at a press conference.
