State Grid Corp of China promised to give priority to daily electricity use, especially at hospitals and schools, during this summer's peak energy use season, the Economic Information Daily reported Tuesday.

China is facing an electricity shortage this summer that might leave the country short of up to 30 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, the most serious situation since 2004, according to the State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

The State Grid, which provides electricity to 26 provinces, said it will try to prevent a massive blackout this summer.
