A woman who held seven diplomas was left feeling confused when she was told she was not qualified to apply for a job as a senior middle school teacher.

Wang Li, 34, will get a masters of education degree this summer and wants to be a teacher at a senior middle school in Hubei province.

Although she had received 16 years of college education and has earned seven diplomas from three universities, she was told she did not have the relevant qualifications to apply for a job at the school.

"I was a teacher at primary and middle schools for eight years and I have taught more than 8,000 students," she said. "I do not understand why they say I have not got the right qualifications to be a senior middle school teacher."

An official surnamed Cheng from the teacher's qualifications center under Hubei provincial education bureau said Wang has an academic masters of education but not a professional masters, so is not qualified according to provincial regulations.
