Beijing-Shanghai high speed rail on trial run

A train runs on the Shanghai section of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway on the first day of trial operation, May 11, 2011. The travel time between Beijing and Shanghai will be about five hours, even though the maximum operating speed is reduced from 350 kilometers per hour to 300 km/h. The ticket price for the journey has yet to be announced, but the Ministry of Railways has already submitted a proposal for ticket prices to the National Development and Reform Commission.[Photo/Xinhua]
