Equal telecommunication service costs about $52.5 a month in the eastern city of Shanghai, while only $7.72 in Hong Kong, the report said, citing research released by the Office of the Telecommunications Authority of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
The monthly rental charges for cellphone users in Hong Kong are also lower than five other metropolises including Tokyo, New York, and London, the research found.
In Hong Kong, monthly cellphone service costs are 10 to 48 percent of the other six cities, the report said. And landline service costs are 8 to 45 percent of the others.
