Birthday wishes made of cash

Yanyan wears special good luck charms made of RMB notes worth thousands of yuan during her 12th birthday celebration in Linfen city, North China's Shanxi province, April 27,2011.

The "charms" are made of Chinese money using 100 and 50 yuan bills by a local celebration service company. According to Shanxi ritual, families hold celebrations for children on their 12th birthday.

The RMB charms carry both the traditional sense of wealth and practical values in modern life. It has become a fad in local celebrations, as relatives have the charms made by party companies.[Photo/CFP]
