BEIJING - A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) met here on Monday with Charles Boustany and Rick Larsen, co-chairmen of the US-China Working Group of the US Congress, as they pledged to promote the sound development of China-US relations.
Li Yuanchao, head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, said that a healthy relationship between China and the United States is in accordance with the fundamental interests of both countries and is conducive to the peace, stability and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region and the world.
The international situation is confronting profound changes, Li said, adding that China and the United States, as the world' s largest developing country and the world' s largest developed country, share increasingly broader common interests and shoulder ever more important responsibilities.
China will work with the United States to implement the consensus reached by Chinese President Hu Jintao and US President Barack Obama in January on building a bilateral cooperative partnership based upon mutual respect and mutual benefit and enhancing dialogue, communication and cooperation, in an effort to advance the healthy development of bilateral ties, he noted.
Boustany said that the United States is willing to strengthen exchanges and communication with China in order to increase mutual understanding and jointly push forward the sound development of mutually beneficial US-China relations.
The US-China Working Group of the US Congress was co-founded by Rick Larsen and Mark Kirk in 2005. The group connects members of Congress with Chinese academics, business people and politicians.
