BEIJING - Global governance should help foster a more favorable environment for developing countries, not otherwise, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Monday.

The G20 represents a useful attempt to build a new type of global partnership for development and reflects the changing landscape of the global economy, Yang said.
He said he hoped the G20 summit to be held in Cannes later this year can help facilitate the shift the G20's role from a short-term mechanism for crisis response to a long-term mechanism for economic governance.
He expects the Cannes summit can take more steps to support the interests of developing countries, and the G20 countries can increase their input in supporting the growth of developing countries.
