BEIJING -- China will accelerate economic restructuring to embark on a self-relying and innovation-driven growth track, Premier Wen Jiabao said at the opening of the parliament's annual session Saturday.
"China's economy needs to be quickly put on the path of endogenous growth driven by innovation," Wen told deputies to the Fourth Session of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC).
The country will quicken the establishment of a modern industrial system and give impetus to industrial transformation and upgrading, he said.
The government will promote balanced development among regions, giving priority to the development of western regions.
"We will actively yet prudently move forward with urbanization, " the premier noted.
Efforts will be enhanced in sectors of energy conservation, environmental protection and ecological development, he said, noting the country will actively respond to climate change.
